Whenever a page on your Internet site does not load, an error message shall be shown to the website visitor. Since there are different errors, there are different pages which will appear, but what's common for all of them is that they are generic and most likely will have practically nothing that is similar to the layout of your website, which can be frustrating for any visitor. This is the main reason why hosting providers have introduced a function called Custom Error Pages. For a wide variety of different errors, visitors will see your custom content, which may be informative or funny, in accordance with your taste, and which shall match the overall design and style of your website, so the pages shall not appear as if they aren't part of your website at all. You can use this option for a variety of errors - 400 (Bad request), 401 (Unauthorized), 403 (Forbidden) and 404 (File not Found).

Custom Error Pages in Cloud Website Hosting

The personalized error pages feature is available with every single cloud website hosting plan that we offer and you'll be able to replace all the generic pages with your own with no more than several clicks in your Hepsia website hosting CP. You will need to produce the actual files and to upload them to your account, and then to set them for a specific domain or subdomain through the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel. You can do this for each website hosted inside the account individually, so that every set of customized pages shall have identical layout as the Internet site it is part of. If required, you may always return back to a default page from our system or to the default Apache server page. An alternate way to set custom error pages is to create an .htaccess file inside the domain/subdomain root folder and to add a few lines in it. If you have never done this before, you may simply copy the required program code from our Help article about this.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers

Our Linux semi-dedicated plans support custom error pages, so you will be able to employ this feature for each domain or subdomain hosted inside your account. All it will take to do that is to go to the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia CP, to click on the Edit button related to the given domain/subdomain and to type the link to the custom file. You could do this independently for every error type. You will be able to switch back to a default error page whenever you want if necessary and the change will take effect at once. Another way to achieve the same result is to put an .htaccess file inside the domain or subdomain folder related to the site that you would like to edit and to type in a couple of lines of code in it. If you'd like to try this method, you may copy and paste the required code from our Knowledge Base article on custom error pages, so you will not need any programming skills or prior experience.
